As a professional Arabic/English interpreter and translator with more than two decades of experience, Nibras has provided interpretation and translation services to government and humanitarian institutions, particularly with regard to interviews with refugee and asylum seeker. She has also provided interpretations and translations for the health sector, and in courts for criminal and civil cases. Nibras holds a Bachelor’s degree in English language and Literature Teaching from the University of Baghdad-College of Education (Baghdad, Iraq), and a Master’s degree in Translation and Interpreting from the Academy of Higher Education of Tripoli, in Libya.  She obtained her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology (Neurocognition) from the University of Bolton-UK and holds a high diploma in Interpreting for services such as law, health and civil law from the IOL institute for Linguists in London.

Her professional career includes roles with the United Nations (Gateway) on UN refugee action and resettlement cases, and with the Home Office-UKBA, Liverpool (UK), where she conducted interviews with the asylum team and passport offices. She also worked for The Big Word for Interpreting and Translation in Leeds (UK), where she provided interpretation services for courts in criminal and civil cases, and served as a tier-one interpreter and translator at Capita for Translation and Interpreting in Manchester (UK) for the Serious Crime Department.

Nibras also provided quality assurance and assessment for interpreters in the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) in the UK- Language shop in London. In addition, she has provided translation and interpretation services on both a paid and volunteer basis for other agencies, including M4, Language Empire, Refugee Action-Hotline Service, Global Accent and Rise Project-Refugee Action, where she served as an asylum caseworker.
